This past year was hard for everyone. I don’t even have the words to describe all the things I felt and experienced this year. There was so much uncertainty, a lot of which we are carrying into 2021. Although I have no idea what this year will look like, the one thing I do know is that I need more of Jesus and less of the media. In a world where there is so much darkness, I’m choosing the Light. I’m choosing to ignore the lies and seek truth and wisdom by reading the Word daily. I’m challenging you to do the same.
There are so many different Bible reading plans out there. Some will take you through the Old and New Testament simultaneously and others will jump back and forth. I’m going to be following The Bible Recap chronological plan. This plan takes you through the Bible as it happened and there are so many other resources to help you understand the Bible and truly see the character of God. You can find a free paper copy on their website or you can download the YouVersion Bible App (it’s free!) and search for the plan – The Bible Recap with Tara-Leigh Cobble. The App allows you to create a community and read plans together. You can join me HERE.
One of the reasons I love this plan is that, Tara-Leigh and The Bible Recap team have created so many great resources for walking through the Bible. In addition to the one-year chronological plan, there is a podcast that breaks down what you read each day. You can find it on any podcast platform you choose. If you are a visual learner, they have the podcast in book form called The Bible Recap*. Personally, I do both…I’m a nerd like that! I like to listen to the podcast and then go to the book and reread things that jumped out at me.
Just because I’m choosing this plan, doesn’t mean you have to! Find one that works for you and just jump in. There’s no perfect way to read the Bible and God isn’t worried about how you do it – just that you do! He wants your time and your heart.
The only thing you need to start reading the Bible is A BIBLE! If money is tight and you need a free option, there are so many great Bible apps available. You can also contact a local church in your area. Most churches would be happy to give you a Bible! I’m in favor of having a physically Bible and I personally really enjoy journaling Bibles. They have wide margins and plenty of room to jot down notes. Here are my favorite journaling Bibles you can find on Amazon!

I personally like ESV because it is a word-for-word translation from the original Scriptures, while NIV and NLT are phrase-by-phrase translations. Just because ESV is my personal favorite, doesn’t mean it has to be yours. Find one that fits you best and go for it.
If you’ve never read the Bible before, I recommend ESV or NIV. I would stay away from The Message, as it’s more like a commentary and not for everyday reading and studying.
Whether reading the Bible everyday is your resolution for 2021 or you are wanting to deepen your relationship with Christ, a Bible reading plan is a great way to stay focused and hold you accountable. I’m excited to dive deeper into Scripture this next year and I hope you join me. If you are joining me for The Bible Recap plan, I’d love to connect with you. Send me an email or DM on Instagram. Let’s grow together in 2021! Be on the lookout for next week’s post all about Bible Journaling and my favorite journaling supplies and Bible tabs!
